Auto repossessions are at an all-time high in this bad economy. Repossessions are a 50-state epidemic - take for instance, the poor Califormia mom whose son was repossessed with her car!
If you default on your auto loan, your lender can repossess your car, sell it at auction, and send you to collections for a deficiency balance. BUT - lenders and repo men need need to follow strict state repossession laws. If they don't, they can face civil liability and owe you damages.
